"Country Homes" are a large portion of
the housing options in the area. Much of the
territory is
a semi-rural atmosphere with homes on on acreage
with many less than 20 minutes into Redding.
Many of these areas have community markets and
shopping centers in smaller quantities than what
is in Redding. The areas have different
housing options ranging from a small affordable
homes to spectacular, homes from the valley floor
to 4000 feet in elevation with a "Lake
Tahoe" type of feel, the choices are varied.
More
General Redding Area Information
Anderson:
This
is a growing small city with many services
available and a core area that is over 100 years
old with a few old Victorian homes, many new affordable
homes are being built in town. As you leave
the center area of town within just a couple
minutes your into the country atmosphere. The eastern portion (Balls Ferry Rd. area)
has a flood irrigation system called A.C.I.D.
(Anderson Cottonwood Irrigation District).
West is Happy Valley which is generally more
affordable with a higher density of mobile homes
with custom homes interspersed throughout..
Location: 10 miles south of Redding on
Interstate 5.
Cottonwood:
Cottonwood is Country. This area still has its hitching posts in
the old town section for the
horse lovers. This unincorporated area has
mostly homes on acreage ranging from small to
large depending upon the area you chose. Some homes
are modest while others much more
extravagant. Large pieces of property
are available in the Cottonwood area.
Location: 15 miles south of Redding on
Interstate 5.
Palo
Cedro and Millvile:
This
is a desirable area just east of town for those
who enjoy the country life style with nearby
services. The commercial area in Palo Cedro
is growing and serving more needs of the
residents. The homes are varied in quality
level with most of the newer homes being larger
than the older ones. Cow Creek and is a
large year around creek that allows for some homes
to overlook the water. Another feature
of the area is a ridge line that runs north and
south that allows for terrific views of the
eastern mountain range including Mount Lassen,
others will have Mount Shasta views as well.
Location: From the
edge of Redding to 15 miles east on Highway 44.

Bella
Vista:
This area is characterized by homes sitting on
between 1 to 10 acres. A variety of homes
ranging from custom homes to old mobiles on land. The
land is mostly a gentle rolling
terrain with seasonal creeks, like most areas
around town some parcels will have terrific views.
Location: From the edge of Redding to 10 miles
north east on Highway 299.
Old
Shasta, and Centerville (Placer
Rd. area):
Shasta
is the home of the Redding area with Whiskeytown
Lake nearby. Back in the Gold Rush era
Shasta sprouted up and now is
home to a state museum honoring this part of our history.
Just west of Redding has a tendency to be more
heavily and thickly covered in native plants in
addition to getting quite hilly. There have
been a series of subdivisions in this area that
have from 1-5 acres with very nice homes built
over the last 20 or more. The views can
knock your socks off from the hillsides looking to
the east over the top of Redding and across to
Mount Lassen, Mountain and city lights make a
great combination.
Location: From the edge of Redding west on
Highway 299 and Placer Roads.
Shingletown,
Whitmore, and Oak Run:
A
bit further out of Redding are these foothill
communities to our east. Here is were you
can escape some of the summer temperatures and get
some winter snow as well. The largest
of the communities is Shingletown, it has service
for the local residents and is about 30 minutes
form Redding. Sitting at between 2000 and
4000 feet in elevation this is a great area with
tall evergreen trees, occasional lakes and on the
door step of Mt Lassen National Park.
Location: 20-35 miles east of Redding on
Highway 44, Highway 299, and along Whitmore and
Oak Runs Roads.
Lakehead:
Lakes....We
are fortunate to have the water resources that we
have including Shasta
Lake and Whiskeytown Lake. Most of the
land surrounding these lakes in owned by the
government with the exception of Lakehead and the
Gilman Rd. area. A great area for a summer
vacation spot or year around living just out of
the valley at around 1800 ft in elevation.
You can have a home that overlooks the lake
although not "on" the lake.
Another spot overlooking Lake Shasta is O'Brien
Mountain Estates, a gated community of very nice
estate type homes.
Location: 20-30 miles north of Redding on
Interstate 5.
Homes are for informational purposes and are
not currently for sale unless noted otherwise.
