Gold Hills Golf Club is the only 18 hole public facility in the Redding area. The club opened in 1980 and has had multiple changes since. In it's current state it is enjoyable to play. In the last few years they have improved the playing conditions to a very nice level, at different times of the year it is equal to or better than some of the private courses in town.

Gold Hills golf course is surrounded by a great neighborhood of custom homes (more Gold Hills subdivision information). Lots are still being added and homes being built at a slow pace. Golf shots are not generally affected by the homes. With the nearby proximity, some of the homes are hit by some wayward shots. The fairways are Bermuda, the greens are Bent. Occasional bunkers and ponds both fairway and greenside are in play on this course. The course is surrounded by homes with more being built. The course wonders through some small ravines with the homes overlooking the course, while other holes are more level. The course has the word Hills in the name for a reason and for most players is best ridden in a cart the first time you play it. The finishing holes are a bit quirky and difficult with #16  an uphill par 4 that is an extra 2 clubs on the second shot. The 17th goes dramatically back down the hill with its short par 3 distance. The shot usually is affected by a breeze and is always difficult to judge the elevation change. A steeply sloped green from back to front awaits sitting well above the surrounding terrain which makes for a difficult up and down. The 18th is a par 5 with Out of bounds on the right side and hazard on the left. A straight tee shot is at a premium, hit a good one and is not to tough.

The newly remodeled Clubhouse looks spectacular!
Pearched on the hill it overlooks the many of the key components to the golf course including the 18th hole, 1st hole, Practice green, Parcatice range and hole #2 in the distance.

Within the clubhouse the bar area has towering
ceilings with windows overlooking the 1st hole and driving range.		 Just outside the Bar is the patio area that overlooks the 18th Green, a great place to hang out and watch the finish of a Tournament like the City Championship.
update: The course has been updated recently with altered Sand Bunkers throughout the course.  Many of the lips of the bunkers were very severe, they are now being softened.  Hole #18 bunker at the green has been removed, the grass bunker at the green on #2 has been removed and surrounding area smoothed.  This work should lead to a more playable and enjoyable round of golf for us all.

Practice Putting is in two locations, one below the Clubhouse and this one near the 9th green. This area is reserved for members and includes chipping,a sand bunker and putting area green.

 The Range at Gold Hills is used from both ends, here from the far end looking back at the clubhouse.

#1 Tee ).  A very nice start to the round.  

#1 Fairway.  The approach shot needs to carry the creek that is in front of the green.

#1.  After crossing the bridge over the creek the bunkers are more in view, if you can't make it to the green there is room short to land safely.

#2 Tee shot must carry this creek which depending on the tees used, wind, and line the ball is hit on you can cut off a big chunk of this dogleg par 5.

The approach shot on the second hole can be a short one.  Be careful hitting into this green tat has two distinct levels.  The longer hitters ay be able to reach in two.

#3.  This short uphill par 3 has a shallow firm green, one of the newer holes at Gold Hills golf course.

#4.  A well played tee shot to the bottom of the hill will leave a short second.

Gold Hills Golf Club #5 Green, Redding California

The fifth hole was moved to the south a few years ago to its current spot.  An uphill tee shot to a flat landing area leads you to the second shot to a firm and crowned green.  The approach shot should take into account the false front on this firm green.

#9.  This par 5 has a downhill tee shot requiring a lay up short of the creek bed, or a thundering tee shot over it.

#9.  The second and third shots of this hole are uphill to a large green, grab an extra club or two.

#9.  This large green has some flat areas, while other spots require playing a large amount of break in the putts.

#11.  A par 4 with an uphill tee shot to a side sloping fairway.  Be conscious of the out of bounds left and right.

#13.  This beautiful new green was recently built at Gold Hills to add length to this short par 4, 
a great improvement to the course.

Gold Hills Golf Course #15 fairway, Redding California Gold Hills Golf Course #15 Green, Redding California

#15.  This par 5 plays downhill with a pond protecting the green.  A well played tee shot down the left side of the fairway will give the long hitters a chance to get home in two,  for the rest of us we'll just try to keep our ball dry. The photo to the right shows more recent work to the left of the green having been done.

#16 is one of the most difficult holes in the Redding area.  This par 4 has plenty of trouble all around.  A couple well placed shots are at a premium.

#16 green is two tiered and oval is shape.  Nearly two extra clubs are needed to get here due to the severe uphill.  You will be very happy with with a net par.

#18.  This closing par 5 at Gold Hills Golf course is a tough hole with out of bounds right.  A recent change in the marking of the hole on the left side allows a drop should you miss in that direction.

#18 Green sits in a bowl shaped area that can help a wayward approach. A nice finish
to an enjoyable round of golf.
